A visit to the first neighborhood center building in Afiri

Infrastructure plans for 2023 include construction of a common structure where people will gather to cook and share meals, to learn language and mathematics, to socialize relax with each other, to connect with relatives and friends via the internet, and for cultural, religious, and family celebrations.

This first of three such neighborhood “hubs” in the village will cost an estimated $85,000 US and will include solar panels, a refrigerated food storage area, tables for mealtime and socializing, internet access, satellite television, and a separate kitchen facility.

It will also be the place where the people of Afiri meet to plan their economic and community development; prepare for their work; and monitor their progress as they make Afiri a place where people are happy to live.
