All success is local.
Our Story
People should be happy where they live. It’s a dream we all share. We want to build our own lives, raise our families, and make a better world for our children. Lucien Obama, the man whose vision started it all, fell in love with his native Cameroon the first time he went back from Switzerland, his adopted home. To share that love, he started a farm. The land is fertile, the people work hard, and they want to make Afiri a thriving village. The seeds for success are there.
It’s a big idea, bigger than one person, bigger even than one farm. Achieving Afiri’s goals requires many people working together. With their new bridge, two fresh water wells, and the new Food Independence Garden, the people of the village have proven they can turn their dreams into a plan and that plan into reality. Today Team KKO, Lucien’s social enterprise cacao farm, provides the jobs that anchor Afiri’s economy. Since 2023, the women of Afiri have launched their own businesses: sewing clothing, and planting vegetables to make the village food-independent. With each successful project, Afiri’s residents build skills they’ll use to make their own village.
Help us continue to provide the spark: basic infrastructure everyone can share is our current objective in Afiri. Fresh water, housing, electrical power, transportation, irrigation systems, and links to the world are just the beginning. Afiri will continue to grow on its own terms. It’s the big idea we all share.
The bridge to Afiri and its fresh water wells are shared resources. Everyone who comes to Afiri, and everything that goes out from the village, uses the new bridge. So do the people in neighboring villages. Afiri also shares its fresh water: it brings better health, an improved diet, and regional progress that continues with all our projects - solar panels and electricity, housing, an irrigated vegetable garden, and other community resources.
When the dreams of self-sufficient people become a reality, and they share them with their neighbors, we can all celebrate our accomplishments.
Afiri is becoming a happy village - a dream we all share. Helping them succeed is our mission. We want to share it with you.

We support local leaders with vision and practical plans.
As the people of Afiri create a community, we’re building a worldwide team to help them on their way - a team that shares their commitment to freedom of choice, and to values we all share: education, health care, and respect for the environment. We provide resources they tell us they need, and we learn together as they grow.
Together, we’re making a village.
